Welcome to the 2nd Vancouver S.M.Arts Conference. Thank you to the Vancouver S.M.Arts Committee for hosting and presenting this event. It is a pleasure to be visiting your fair province once again. Judging from the feedback of our past participants in other cities, S.M.Arts continues to provide a comfortable environment for new and experienced stage managers to hone their craft.
All courses will take place at the Actsafe (aka SHAPE) offices, suite 280 in the boardroom. Actsafe is located at 1385 West 8th Avenue, just one block north of Broadway and one block west of Granville. There is pay parking on the street, in a surface lot on 8th between Granville & Hemlock and in the Actsafe building. If you are taking public transport, Actsafe is accessible via buses #9, #10, #16, #17 and #99.
We have assembled a group of amazing instructors from Vancouver as well as our S.M.Arts directors, Winston Morgan and Janelle Rainville. S.M.Arts instructors are chosen because they are working professionals. Each has a career in the arts and continues to develop their craft at the various institutions and organizations for which they work. Through their advice, experience and helpful hints a participant will have the opportunity to explore the many facets of stage management.
Finally, whether you attend the conference or not, I hope that you will join us at the S.M.Arts Apprenticeship Trust Fund Fundraiser on Sunday, May 16th at 7:00 p.m. in the Upstairs Lounge at the Arts Club Theatre on Granville Island. Money raised through raffle tickets and donations will go towards the creation of a trust fund to finance two apprenticeships a year nationally. Our goal is $40,000 and we are over half way there.
