I am happy to announce that the "On-the-road" Winnipeg S.M.Arts conference was a success. The 4-day mini-conference, which took place from June 11 - 14th, 2009, was attended by 13 participants from Manitoba, BC, Ontario and even as far as away as Thailand. The courses ranged from how to stage manage dance and opera to how to call a show or give notes to actors. There were also 2 courses taught by CAEA Communications Director, Lynn McQueen on how to become an apprentice and how to read the CTA.
From the feedback we received the conference was very well received. It was great to meet the Winnipeg Stage Management community. The best part about the conference was the continual sharing of ideas and discussions that would continue outside the classroom. With such a mix of senior stage managers right down to the 1st time apprentice, everyone seemed to walk away with a new zest for the job and new tricks of the trade. Thank you to Sylvia, Michelle, and Tania for helping to organize the conference, to Gail, Karyn & Nick for consulting and to Nik Dethmers, who was the conference assistant. I can't wait to go back in a few years. We have already begun planning next year's S.M.Arts "On-the-Road" conference - Vancouver in 2010! Hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
Janelle Rainville
