It was obvious when I worked as a stage manager that newcomers to the craft and those already in the midst of a career wanted to have the opportunity to continue to explore the depths of the position. The S.M.Arts Conferences both in Toronto and On the Road (Regina, Vancouver, Edmonton, Montreal, and Winnipeg) were created as a means for like-minded instructors and participants to share knowledge and ask questions about stage management. The Conference provides the means to explore the various important skill sets required as a professional stage manager.
At every Conference session, the participants are given an evaluation form to assess the instructor, the course material and offer ideas for future sessions. This information, along with the notes from a post mortem held with the Conference Passholders, is vital to keep the Conference changing and improving. Just this year we have started to rotate classes so that each year there will be new material for participants to study.
Janelle Rainville, Co-Director, and I look forward to meeting you in the S.M.Arts learning environment.
Cheers, Winston Morgan Director, S.M.Arts |
